What is epigenetics and why is it so important to health and wellness? Most people are familiar with the word “genetics,” but few have ever heard the word “epigenetics” or know what it is and how important it is.
Here is an easy way to look at it…
First of all, don’t rely on your local primary care provider to help you understand your epigenetics or help you utilize it to optimize health and wellness. The true value of epigenenetics is this: How your DNA is expressed (turned on and off) can be manipulated (or biohacked) to help express genes that you want expressed and turn off genes that you don’t want turned on. Methyl groups (one carbon) and Acetyl groups are routinely attached to your DNA and onto the sites that “wind up” your DNA, histone proteins. Think of these small molecules that get attached to your DNA as the keys that lock and unlock doors, in this case, lock and unlock genes within your DNA.
Epigenetics can be utilized to optimize health, wellness, and longevity.
This short video nicely explains the concept of epigenetics.
